My Men

There is this boy. Now, he's not that kind of boy. But a friend-boy. His name is garrett, and i love him so much. He's always been there for me through tough times, and he gave me the best advice i have ever recieved from anyone. When you're having a hard time and you feel like you will never be able to stop crying, drink some chocolate milk. Today when i reached in the fridge for the comfort, i was reminded of garrett and how much i love and miss him.

Zach, my other go-to guy friend, except i can actually stop by his house when i need him. I feel like i could tell zach anything and he'd never think less of me. I care about him tons and get really jealous when girls try to talk to me about how they think he's cute and want to date him. He's one of my very best friends and i think i'd be lost without him.

Brian, oh brian. I have never missed anyone as much as i miss Brian. He's so smart when it comes to boy problems. what you should and should not do. and his hugs can make your day all by themselves. I dont get to see or talk to Brian much, but i think about him all the time. We used to have late night talks in his car about life's most important decisions and issues and they meant so much to me. He means so much to me.

I dont know why i felt like i needed to tell you about these guys, but i just hope you all have those special guy friends in your life that have your back no matter what. cause they help.

the difference between friends and friends

over the years the term friend has taken a different meaning. A friend is supposed to be someone you can count on not to bring you down, someone who cares about you and your well being, someone who is there to make pick you up when you're sad and visit you in the hospital when you're sick. I've noticed that now-a-days if someone sits next to us in math class, and we talk to them every once in a while, we call them our friend. if someone hangs out with the same people we do so we interact with them on weekends we call them our friend. Lately i have been noticing that some people i refer to as "friends" really don't give a crap about me. there are those girls you see in the hallway that compliment your shirt every day because they want people to think they're nice, that is not a friend. So i guess i'm posting all this randomness to say, be a friend. a real friend. I'm so grateful for the real friends i have in my life and i'm really starting to appreciate it.

Have you ever typed the words "inspirational quotes" into google and clicked search? 'cause i do it all the time. I have hundreds of favorite quotes and I love them all equally. Today i was searching google for a good quote to use in a presentation i have coming up, and i found this one:

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" -ghandi

I fell in love with this quote right away, because i have always been a firm believer in NOT seeking revenge. What good does it do? If someone stabs you in the back, stabbing them in the back just makes you look bad- and you get blood on your hands. There have been countless times when my friends have done things to hurt my feelings. (As a reader you are probably thinking "this is just like me" right at this moment. That's because it's part of life and happens to everyone) The trick with this is knowing the right way to respond. Next time someone makes you angry and you think "how can i make them feel my pain" remember ghandi's words, and remember two wrongs don't make a right.

The cure-all to any problem. When people ask me what they should do in sticky situations, i usually reply with a heartfelt, well thought out response. But, today i decided that "go eat a brownie" works too. Examples?

"hey Whitney my boyfriend just dumped me"
i could say, "I'm so sorry, what did he say? are you okay?"
or "it'll all be better if you just eat a brownie."

i've been having a string of "just one of those days" where my bank was closed down unexpectedly, i accidentally showed up to peer court on a night we didnt have it, a lady took the last purple goodie bag, and I just felt so done with everything. then i walk in the door and smell the best smell.. the smell of brownies in the oven. it was like my mom subconsciously knew exactly what i needed. As i ate half the pan i realized, it could be worse. tomorrow's another day, and sometimes all you need is a brownie.

People Watching

What is people watching? is it a hobby? a talent? a sport? well, whatever it is, i'm good at it. I people watch all the time, and I'm reminded of important life lessons when i do. here are two stories:

1. It was easter weekend, and we went down to st george/vegas. One night my mom, sister, and i were walking up and down the strip. It was kinda late and some of the stores were closing. As we walked past this karaoke bar, i saw someone amazing. This man, probably in his seventies, in a sequined black shirt just singing his heart out. He wasn't amazing, and he wasn't terrible. The beautiful thing about this story is that no one was listening to him. The even more beautiful thing was that he didn't care. Ever since this day, i have been striving to be like him. Not wrinkly and poorly dressed, but I have tried to live up every moment. Life is too short to be anything but happy.

2. Me and my friend Callie were taking an adventure downtown to go shopping. And oh, it was an adventure. From boys staring at us for abnormal amounts of time, to the crazy hippie man telling us his life story. We had such a fun time and we were on our way back, riding on trax, when an inspiring family walked on to the train. The father was holding the daughter in his arms and the mom had a shaved head. At first glance, you wouldn't think much. But if you looked closer, you could see that the daughter had a bandana on her head and she was obviously incredibly sick. I was touched by the love i could see radiating from her parents, and i was reminded that you should cherish every moment you have with someone, because you never know how long you have with them.

Now i dont personally know the karaoke man, or the other family, but they have touched my life. Be careful out there everybody, you never know when people watchers are watching you.
